Waverley Park Physiotherapy Centre (Physioworks Mulgrave) provided the physiotherapy coverage for the entirety of the tournament for all teams.

Each day brought about something a little different, not only from a physio perspective, but all battled through an unpredictable week of heat, rain, wind and smoke from the recent bushfires.

The WPPC physio team started the week taping a few injured players to help them through their matches. Across the championship, as the athletes started to feel the pinch of the week long competition, we treated more tight, overworked and fatigued muscles, as well as a numerous overuse injuries.

And it wasn’t only the U16 athletes that utilized our services – a few weary umpires, players from other age groups and spectators came with their aches and pains to our pop-up physio clinic on-site at Jells Park.

Waverley Park Physiotherapy Centre and Physioworks Camberwell Director Andrew Dalwood said that the WPPC was pleased to support and educate young, developing elite athletes in injury prevention and injury management across the championship.

“It was great that our local Mulgrave community hosted a National Championship sporting event, so WPPC were delighted to provide physio and health care support. Advice on taping, hydration and recovery were key messages for the participants from our team given the age of the competitors and the number of back to back games across the week which was a big step up for many of the participants” said Andrew.

Despite the many challenges throughout the tournament, the week culminated with exciting finals that saw NSW vs QLD (girls) and VIC vs QLD (boys) take to the diamonds. At the end of two exciting matches, both Queensland teams took out the coveted trophies.
