Physioworks Health Group Soft Tissue Massage Therapist Karyn Wheeler has attended a Trauma Touch Therapy course in Colorado, USA.
Trauma Touch Therapy is a bodywork modality that allows the client to work through things that may be affecting their body as a result of previous impactful events; such as a car or workplace accident, death of a loved one, diagnosis of chronic illness or abuse of any kind.
The intensive 60 hour Trauma Touch Therapy (Level 1) course was held over 5 days with a focus of on touch, brain science and bio feedback as well as how work with a client to “tell us what and not why”. Fifteen attendees completed the course – 12 from the USA, 2 from Canada – with Karyn Wheeler being the only massage therapist from Australia attending.
Karyn believes to achieve best outcome with Trauma Touch Therapy, it is important for the massage therapist to work with the client in a safe and supported clinical environment.
‘By holding space in a safe environment, and with client direction, we are able to integrate what is going on in the brain with what is going on in the body, whilst also assisting the client with learning techniques for ongoing self-regulation and management” said Karyn.
