Physioworks Health Group Director David Francis (FACP) has a long term association with the Collingwood Football Club (CFC) having worked with the AFL club in a physiotherapy and sports science capacity since 1995.

Over the last two decades the importance sports science in AFL team success has been well-documented, given the dynamic pace at which the game is now played the need for management of the players health, well-being and output is paramount.

As a Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist, David Francis* has advised many aspects of the training and match day preparation of the CFC playing squad to help minimise injury and maximise optimum output; and in the rehabilitation programs of individual players when injury has occurred.

With the Magpies now playing in the 2018 AFL Grand Final, David Francis, alongside other members of the Physioworks Health Group team, including Physiotherapist Ben Shipperd and Soft Tissue Massage Therapist Larissa Cordiano, is focussed on his role to best assist the team to win the 2018 AFL Premiership.

“The injury challenges with the squad this season have been well documented. All at the club have worked extremely hard to ensure we had a squad ready week in, week out to face the challenges of a long hard season; and give ourselves an opportunity to be successful. It is an exciting time for all at the club. And our challenge has 4 long quarters to go!! “

With her focus and interest in Sports Physiotherapy, Physiotherapist Amy Shipperd, has recently completed two Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) courses:

• Advanced Assessment and Management of the Wrist
• Advanced Differential Diagnosis and Treatment of Elbow Pain.

Summer sports, such as tennis, golf and cricket, especially early in the season when returning from seasonal lay-offs, can often see an increase in wrist and elbow injuries.

Amy Shipperd has extensive experience in tennis related injuries, providing physiotherapy support to players at numerous national and international tennis tournaments across the summer.  Both APA education courses assisted Amy to fine tune her assessment and management skills for wrist and elbow issues that can often be tricky to assess and complex in their management.

Physioworks Health Group Managing Director Susan Francis presented the Physioworks Health Group SEFNL Volunteer of the Year at the SEFNL 2018 Awards Presentation Night.

The Physioworks SEFNL Netball Volunteer of the Year was Rebecca Sparks from the Cranbourne Netball Club, and Russel Traits from the Berwick Football Club was awarded the Physioworks SEFNL Football Volunteer of the Year.

Nominated by their clubs, both Russel and Rebecca received a plaque, as well as relaxing, health and well-being treatment vouchers for Massage Therapy and Fitness Assessments from Physioworks Health Group.

In congratulating the SEFNL Volunteers of the Year, Physioworks Susan Francis said participation in local community sporting clubs is key to the health of the community.

“Local sporting clubs are the pride of local communities. The tireless volunteer work of people like Rebecca and Russel provide the access to all for participation in sport assisting the health, fitness and general well-being of the community. Physioworks Health Group Camberwell is pleased to introduce experienced Massage Therapist Karyn Wheeler to all our valued clients.

Karyn has been a massage therapist at Physioworks Cranbourne clinic since 2005 and is a member of the Australian Association of Massage Therapists.

Soft Tissue Massage Therapist Karyn Wheeler provides a range of massage therapy services, including relaxation massage, remedial massage, sports massage and pre and post pregnancy massage. She is also experienced in manual lymphatic drainage for clients experiencing problems with swelling and fluid retention post-surgery.

With a strong interest in sports massage, Karyn has worked extensively with sporting teams including the Melbourne Football Club (AFL), the Casey Scorpions (VFL) and the Pakenham Football Club (SEFNL).
